Join Pink in Signing the Petition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages

Outspoken rocker Pink has erected a billboard in Times Square to support New York City Council Member Tony Avella's groundbreaking legislation that would ban horse-drawn carriages in the city!

If you're not already familiar with the cruelty and danger of the horse-drawn carriage industry, please watch this short clip from the new documentary Blinders, and we know that you'll want to take action to ensure that this abusive industry is finally abolished.

Every year, the list of accidents involving horse-drawn carriages grows longer. It is clear that additional rules and monitoring will not make a difference in the lives of these at-risk and dispirited animals. The only humane solution is a permanent ban on horse-drawn carriages.

Please sign the petition below to support the ban on horse-drawn carriages in New York City. We will send the petition to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the New York City Council to show that residents and tourists alike support the compassionate ban on horse-drawn carriages.

Full Petition Text:

Dear Mayor Bloomberg and Council Members,

New York City's horse-drawn carriages require horses to work in extreme weather conditions, pose a public safety hazard (because horses "spook" easily and cause accidents), cause horses to suffer debilitating hoof and leg ailments, and force horses to breathe toxic exhaust fumes that can result in lung damage. Further regulation by agencies that have already proved to be incapable of regulating the industry will not solve the problem. The only humane solution is a permanent ban.

I urge you to demonstrate your compassion by supporting efforts to ban horse-drawn carriages. Cruelty to animals does not belong in New York City.
